Photographic Light Painting is the art of taking total control of the light while photographing a subject.
I achieve this by working in a completely dark environment with the camera shutter held open for extended periods, while I literally "paint" the subject, little by little, with the lights of my choosing. This allows me the freedom of expression to produce the images you see here.
I use many different light sources, some incandescent, some LED, and even some laser light. Some have wide, soft beams. Others are mini spot lights. I will sometimes use colored gels with incandescent and/or LED lights to paint certain areas of a scene with color. Some light is applied directly, while other light may be reflected to provide an indirect application.
When choosing my subject, I can often “see” the finished piece in my mind, just by feeling the surface’s texture.
Most of my images are achieved in a single exposure, but occasionally I will utilize multiple exposures to allow me a more complex application of light.
All of my Light Painting works are Limited Editions with very low quantities offered in the series. I am also available for commissioned work for custom images of objects of your choosing, such as unique family heirlooms and treasures.
All images are available un-mounted, mounted and matted, or fully custom framed. All are photographically printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper using 100% acid free materials for preservation. Mounting is truly archival in that it can be safely removed and re-mounted in the future to further preserve the image. Like the prints themselves, all materials used in mounting are acid free.
A signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity, bearing an image of the actual print, is included with each piece. View an example Certificate of Authenticity here.
Please contact me directly if you are interested in purchasing any of the Limited Edition prints here, or if you would like to discuss a commissioned piece. Thank you for taking the time to visit and please enjoy the images.
